A Homemade Year- A Giveaway

My friend Jerusalem from Jolly Goode Gal recently wrote her first book A Homemade Year, The Blessings of Cooking, Crafting, and Coming Together and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it.  In the book, Jerusalem follows the liturgical calendar, sharing traditions and celebrations from all different walks of Christian faith.

I think this excerpt from the preface explains the intent perfectly-

…I too have gone through seasons of thinking that legitimate spirituality only fit into one very tight fitting box.  My prayer is that A Homemade Year is the kind of book that will free you from just that sort of mistaken belief, from that phantom one-size-fits-all box.  Instead I hope that this book inspires you to seek and experience God in a different way at your own pace.

I love learning about different Christian traditions and the history behind them, and when you combine that with Jerusalem’s crafts, recipes, and conversational writing style…well, I had the entire book read in just a few days.  I couldn’t put it down!  I love the way she shares her own faith journey so candidly and how she encourages you to make the projects and recipes fit for your own family.

I have practically dog-eared half the pages in the book, marking Jerusalem’s inspiring words and projects I want to try with my family, but one project could not wait.  Jerusalem’s Mug of Pie.  Personal pies baked in a mug…genius!  And they are delicious, which is evident by the fact there are only 3 mugs in that photo instead of the 4 I originally baked.  These delicious treats are in the book as part of the celebration of Michaelmas, which Jerusalem encourages as a time to celebrate over a meal with our own earthly angels.  I love her words at the end of the chapter-

Sometimes Jesus comes himself to slay the dragon, and sometimes he sends his angels.

I truly cannot say enough great things about this book.  The tone of the book is inclusive and inspiring, and it feels as though you are reading words written by a dear friend.

I’m absolutely thrilled to be able to give away one copy of A Homemade Year!  To enter just leave a comment on this post.  The winner will be chosen by random.org on Monday and notified via email.
